Rational Use of drug- Strategy & Perspective in context of a Developing Country

Irrational drug use is prevalent in both developing and industrialized countries. Consequently drug therapy may prove ineffective, unnecessarily expensive or unsafe. Contemporary medical education emphasizes diagnosis, and teaching in therapeutics is still, a neglected topic in most countries. All health care professionals required training for irrational drug use to be reduced.


. The actual use of drug often bears  little resemblance to principles  of scientific therapy based on sound experimental or clinical data. The cost of such irrational drug use are enormous in terms of both wastage of scarce resources  as well as the occurrence of adverse events and increased sufferings to the patient. most of the physicians in developing countries go into the habit of prescribing irrational drugs. Drugs can cure ailments when used rationally, on the other hand, they may become harmful and can even threaten life when used irrationally.
